FeaturesYour running

See which climbs you ran and which you hiked.

Trailbuddy reads your cadence, the phone's motion and the grade to tell running from hiking, stretch by stretch.

On a steep trail, power hiking is part of running well. Trailbuddy tells you where you ran and where you hiked, so you can see which choice was faster on the climbs you repeat.

How Trailbuddy tells running from hiking

Trailbuddy reads your step rate from the phone's motion sensors, the activity iOS recognizes from the phone's movement and the grade under your feet, and classifies every second of the run as running, hiking or walking with fixed rules that the methodology lists.

After the run Trailbuddy shows how much of it you ran and how much you hiked, and every climb shows the share you hiked. Walking on flatter ground counts as hiked.

Compare the choice, not just the time

Hike the steep middle of the water tower climb one week and run it the next, and Trailbuddy shows both reps with their time, climb rate and share hiked side by side. Over a season the reps tell you where hiking pays on your climbs.

A running tracker

Running, 1:24:07

Your watch files the power-hiked climbs and the runnable flats as one activity with one pace.

Trailbuddy

Hiked 38% of the climb

Trailbuddy shows the rep's time and climb rate next to how much of it you hiked.

Trailbuddy never changes a time for it

Run and hike detection is for reading and comparing your runs. Your time, distance and pace stay exactly as recorded, whatever gait Trailbuddy recognized.
